About Wild Jag Audio

We made it so you can wreck it.

Wild Jag Audio makes audio plugins based on hardware from the 1980s and 90s. Some are modeled on a specific unit. Others are inspired by a device or a sound that we just wanted to make real. Shields, for example, is based on a classic shoegaze reverse reverb, while Corrosion is just a tool I wanted to have in my arsenal.

Modeled plugins are built from real measurements. A unit is captured with probe signals and impulse responses, and those captures go through several forms of analysis that return the settings needed to match its signal. Analysis is handled by a custom machine learning platform written for just this purpose. The plugin's DSP is built on what it finds.

Each modeled plugin is null-tested against the original impulse responses and probes before release. We then A/B it against the source, and it goes through UX and debugging checks. We make sure it's something we are actually using and bringing into projects before we release it.

Plugins are available as VST3, AU, AAX, and standalone. They run on macOS now, and Windows builds are in progress.

Wild Jag Audio is run by Adam Beck, a software engineer and musician with decades of performing, recording, and writing behind him, including Houses of Heaven and VANIISH. He started building plugins after a company-wide layoff left him out of work for an extended stretch.

We hope you get something out of our plugins, and that you enjoy using them as much as we do.

WTF is a "Wild Jag"

Wild Jag comes from Wilde Jagd, the Wild Hunt of Germanic and Celtic folklore. In the stories, a ghostly host rides across the sky on winter nights, and people knew it by sound before they saw anything: horns, hounds, hooves, and wind. In many accounts the Hunt is never seen and its quarry is never named. All that survives is the sound of the chase. The legend probably began as an explanation for storm noise, a sound with no visible source that people gave a shape and a cause.

Etching of riders, horses and hounds charging across a stormy night sky, above a figure sprawled on a dark hillside.
